Top 10 Ideas for Outdoor Fun

Now that the weather is getting nicer, it's getting even harder to be inside. If you're getting stir crazy from being cooped up in the house all day, we've got you! Here are our top 10 fun outdoor activities for kids of all ages.

1. Make a Chalk Obstacle Course

Take your hopscotch game to the next level! You can make your obstacle course as difficult or as easy as you want - all that matters is getting out some energy. If it rains, you can start all over again with some new ideas.

2. Take Story Time Outside

Grab an old favorite and find a comfy spot in the sun. While reading isn't the most physical activity, you're still working your mind and getting some fresh air while you do it!

3. Do Some Gardening

Start flexing those green thumbs and get down in the dirt. Gardening is great for getting outside and relieving stress in kids and adults alike. If you don't have an outdoor space, doing some indoor gardening can still be fun and educational!

4. Catch Some Bugs

Use your explorer skills to find and capture some creepy crawlies! Keep a catalog of these critters and let them go, or build a terrarium and keep them for a while. Just make sure you don't squish them!

5. Make Flower Pressings

Flower pressings are a great way to preserve a gift or just a favorite flower. All you need is a book or some boards, some wax paper, and a little bit of patience to make a unique addition to any photo album, scrap book, or art project!

6. Go For a Scooter Ride

Try going to a new neighborhood or somewhere else you've never been before. Even if it's just somewhere you haven't been in a while, it's always good to refresh your routine!

7. Make Some Shadow Art

Grab some of your favorite figurines and make them your muses! Line them up along a piece of paper and trace the silly shapes their shadows make. Then you can color them in or just leave them as is!

8. Do Some Bird Watching

Start logging all the birds you see around your yard and neighborhood. What time do you see them? What are they doing? Are there any other birds around? This kind of scientific exploration is great for keeping your mind and body active!

9. Have Some Water Fun

Weather permitting, it's always fun to bust out the sprinkler, water balloons, or kiddie pool! If you don't have an outdoor space, you can still turn bath time into a day at the pool.

10. Go for a Nature Walk

A lot of local preserves and trails are still open to the public. This is a great way to get outside and burn some energy as long as you're still practicing social distancing. Each state has their own guidelines for public areas, so make sure you know what yours are!
